Pushing Daisies at the Kings Fair

Pushing Daisies

Out of all the events the Sentinel has to cover year after year, I think that the Kings Fair is my favorite. From the midway to the animals there is always something to shoot. It's such a visual rich environment. There is no excuse to come back with the same shot from the previous year. But this year I only had about an hour wander around at the fair. And it was the day before, when they were still setting up. I felt like I didn't have enough time to find something interesting. So I was glad when this guy came walking into my frame holding this gigantic daisy that was part of an carnival ride.

Call Forwarding The New York Times

Posted by Apolinar Fonseca on 10:14 AM in , ,

The New York Times asked for reader submissions and they got them. Who says you need a big fancy DSLR camera to take nice pictures?

To judge from the response to our cellphone photo solicitation — 1,524 submissions before we closed the mailbox on July 2 — our readers are doing nothing but taking pictures with their mobile devices.

And what pictures. My colleague Josh Haner, who curated our gallery with an eye toward graphic composition, use of light and unusual moments, found 353 photos that he thought were worth sharing with a larger audience. Many entrants focused on the sky, capturing moody colors and striking cloud forms; exactly those fleeting moments at which one used to say, “I wish I had a camera right now.”

Entire Music Video Shot on the iPhone 3GS

Posted by Apolinar Fonseca on 7:50 AM in ,

It's no secret that I think the iPhone is a fantastic photography tool. Now the iPhone 3gs can be a great video creation tool as well.

The music video for 'Love Love Love' by Reyna Perez was shot entirely on the new iPhone 3GS. It was co-directed by Ari Kuschnir of m ss ng p eces, according to a BoingBoing report.

The Most Popular Camera Is....the iPhone?

Posted by Apolinar Fonseca on 9:17 PM in , , ,

Yes, according to the photo-sharing site's public data the iPhone is the most used camera on Flickr. This should come to no surprise. It's an always present device and is "good enough" for most situations from everyday documentation to special occasions.
